You can work out the correct spacer thickness without taking the whole engine apart. It just takes time and patience.
This is what I would do.
Assuming you currently have no end float.
1) Take the nut off and measure the depth from the flywheel boss to the end of the crank. Keep a note of this for reference.
2) Make a slightly thinner spacer than you currently have
3) Re assemble the flywheel and thinner spacer with plasti-guage between spacer and primary gear. I'd put plasti-guage in 2 place 180 degrees apart.
4) Put on flywheel and torque up flywheel nut to what you previously torqued it to.
5) Take nut off and measure the depth from flywheel boss to end of crank. Hopefully it is the same as before. Make a note. Might want to make a spider spacer for setting it later.
6) Remove flywheel and see what the plasti-guage measures the end float as.
If the plasti-guage isn't marked then make a thicker spacer and repeat.
If you currently have some endfloat then just use the spacer you have with plasti-guage and work from there.
Repeat until you have the required endfloat.
Apologies if you know this.
