Give it a bit of time before you decide to sell, you'll have a long time to regret it.

Don't sell the mini mate. Make it more secure or park somewhere else. Summer is almost here and thats when the mini is most enjoyable.

As for the damage if you have any panels that need attention kick them it in and claim on the insurance to get everything fixed including the damage those ar@@holes did..

couple of updates,

store cctv does cover the attempted theft but only on the very periphery of the view so theres no real quality only reference to time and their actions.
it does show he was in the car for just under 5 minutes so clearly was stumped by the immobilizer. As by rights it shouldn't have taken that long.

gave a statement last night at the police station and hopefully something will come from evidence found but i won't hold my breath.

i can't park it somewhere more secure it was parked in a busy public car park in the middle of the afternoon. This didn't happen in the dead of night i'm at a loss as to what more i can do.

i spoke to Old Skool Minis to get an idea for prices for parts. They said i'm the 5th person in the last month around Birmingham to request the same parts. So clearly Minis are being targeted, one chap had only popped into Lidl and they tried in the car park.

still don't think i'll be keeping it, but even the misses (who's always hated the mini, well my devotion to it) says not to make any rash decisions especially as im still more than pissed.

This is really bad news. I agree regards plod, not sure what more you can do really. I have a removable steering wheel but I suppose if they really want it they will just bring a trailer and then your stuffed. Not good.

Disgusting!! I'd really advise keeping but belling it up really well! My next one will have cat 1 with text alerts, warn aways etc.
Siren needs to be a battery back up so if they rip it off it will still carry on.
Hope you don't have to sell due to this :(

Buy 4 wheel clamps, handbreak to gear stick lock, steering lock, as well as all the above mentioned measures! I know I'm just being silly now, but it would be quite funny to see their faces when they make a second attempt on your car

Looking through the stolen threads it would appear that there's little point keeping hold of it with the numbers going missing.

Biggest ball ache is trying to get to work on the other side of town without a car the thought of the bus makes me ill.

I had mine stolen off my drive 2 years back. Knowing the car was loud they towed it down the road before starting it. Lucky I got it back but I lost interest in the mini, thinking it will be nicked again etc but 2 years later I'm starting to enjoy it again.

Alarm + imobilizer + kill switch along with lockable bonnet pins should help prevent it happening again

It has an alarm and immobiliser, I think that's why it's still here. Even though they had the balls to open the bonnet (internal release) and rip the speaker for the alarm out.

I've had fun with the mini but ive also had some serious nightmares. I could always justify the rubbish occasions and invest my time and money and make good. But if someone has now decided they deserve all that for nothing and cam just take it, then I think my mini days are over.

I can only see this problem getting worse so holding onto the mini won't really help.

At least I've had 4 years of reasonably fun times.

sorry to hear you've had to go through all this. One way I've found to be exceptionally good as a deterrent is to put the alarm sounder inside the car. If it is hidden away, unless they have earplugs, no one I know could stand any amount of time inside looking for the sounder or trying to take the car
