I picked up this manifold to use on my 998 project as it looked very much like the maniflow in terms of design, thought it would be better than the standard one anyway.
Has anyone any idea what it is or where it might have come from? John cooper garages at some time?

Its the right angle for a mini oposed to an MG or similar and very well finished in the ports also its machined for the location ring at manifold face.
Any info would be great as I've never seen one like it before.

Yeah thanks for looking, it seems similar to the maniflow but alloy with a steel balance tube. Its got Cooper cast on one side and R-400/1 on the other... I thought it might be part of the 998 cooper garages conversion but it seems not.

Looks to me like it could be too well finished inside actually. Manifolds shouldn't have anything approaching a polished surface. It's an odd one.

There not the best pics, its not polished on the inside, more of ground finish and quite coarse to the touch, it just doesn't show up in the low light low res pictures. Even the balance pipe is blended into the ports on the inside so someone spent a little time on it.

can't remember what site it is but one of the american sites has loads of a series manifolds on it.

should be a mini or mg site though.

I seem to remember an old SU catalogue having individual manifolds like this, and it looks like it's been fabricated from a couple. You can see how the ports for the balance pipe are made to be bored through and connected up wherever you need. I'm stumped as to why it has Cooper cast into it though, the ones fitted to all the conversion kits were just the standard old BMC Cooper type. It may have been for a major Mini territory like Japan or Germany.

I was thinking about the possibilityof the Japanese market. Both the individual intake ports are from the same casting/mould. They would need to have some symmetry regarding the balance port so they could be bored out on oposing sides and connected I guess. Its looks like its intended for a mini with the correct steeper angle to match the carbs and the obvious cooper name in the casting. I'll get some carbs on it later and take another pic.

So many 'experts', and yet so little useful knowledge.

I suspect that ANON, like myself, knows exactly what it is but I won't try and buy it off you for a bargain price.

Oh, and it is interesting that it has been drilled for HS2 or H4 carburettors.
