Heres the update on Checkmate!!! WOOP WOOP
So got the nearside inner flitch prepped and welded in today, i need to weld a tad more on the main area to the rest of the inner wing but its in which is the main thing .
I havent plug welded before so thought id try on this area to see what its like....To be honest im as chuffed as punch with it haha.
I got the bottom lip made but neglected picturing that as i was on a roll for once since the beginning of the "strip" .
Heres a few pictures for you to seeeeee.......
Mocking the new lip to plug weld to...
Before:
During:
No after im afraid
Plug welding the flitch in:
Gap became quite abit bigger than before so having to bridge across :
Thats it only three pictures but im happy with the amount done to be honest,
Next up is to weld in the top flitch panel i made a while ago so i can then cut this side of the dash rail out and start on the bulkhead again.
Cheers

Hi not commented on your these before but your doing well should be a nice little car once done good luck with it!!
Hi darren,
Cheers bud, im hoping it't end up nice yeah haha, my welding isnt bad but its not perfect and considering im using gasless flux cored wire its never going to be perfect i know that.
The problem with Gasless MIG wire is that instead of having gas as the shield you have flux instead which has to one way or another be burnt off, and in doing so it coats the welds which means i have to keep clearing it off with a wire brush (not too much of a pain to be honest).
At first when i started using gasless a while ago now i thought it to be a terrible thing and doubted its strength and hated it as it gave me a terrible visual weld, the only reason i/we went to flux cored wire is budget at the time, me and my family arnt wealthy like a few TMFer's but i try to do as much as possible to make up for a few short comings and after folking out 70 quid a bottle from BOC a many a time now i thought we'd try a different method.
After all are roll's have gone i might consider getting a bottle but i,ve become used to having a shoddy weld until a grind it down a tad
Cheers
Cliff
EDIT: Could i also just add that this tool: http://www.halfords....tegoryId_165557
...................Is one of the best things to use for stripping back paint to bare metal, it isnt as vicious as i flappy disc on a grinder or using chemicals for example.
I used it today for the first time in the drill on a velcro backed attachment and it takes its time getting through at first but gives you a bit of time for judgement of when to stop before you start to thin the metal (which a grinder a similar doesnt).
So yeah 8/10 for me on this tool.

Not tried it on thick guage metal yet but i cant say i,ve had any air pockets you're saying about though.
I,ve got about 5 roll's left now, the bug bear is that there only small roll's (0.45kg) so im changing the reel more times than sainsbury's ,
If they made a bigger reel of the stuff id be alot happyer thats for sure .
Also another benefit to gasless is that windy conditions arnt a problem haha
