Been no chanch to progress much due to rain!, but looking to get the offside A-post inner surface cleaned up and painted plus any relevant repairs sorted so i can get cracking with putting the flitch repair on and welded in place to make it somewhat solid again.

 

I,ve decided to do all three projects in a cycle of progression, did the suspension on the metro, bought and primed some panels and re-planned my attack on the mk2 and now its Checkmates turn for some much needed/wanted progress and work so this weekend whilst up cumbria i bought some knotted wheels so i can get inside the A-post properly to bare metal and start a fresh.

 

Next update should come when you see the sun out shining haha

Heres the update on Checkmate!!! WOOP WOOP

 

So got the nearside inner flitch prepped and welded in today, i need to weld a tad more on the main area to the rest of the inner wing but its in which is the main thing  .

 

I havent plug welded before so thought id try on this area to see what its like....To be honest im as chuffed as punch with it haha.

I got the bottom lip made but neglected picturing that as i was on a roll for once since the beginning of the "strip"  .

 

Heres a few pictures for you to seeeeee.......

Plug welding the flitch in:

 

 

Gap became quite abit bigger than before so having to bridge across

 

Thats it only three pictures but im happy with the amount done to be honest,

Next up is to weld in the top flitch panel i made a while ago so i can then cut this side of the dash rail out and start on the bulkhead again.

i had this to when i done the rear quarter the gap was bigger next time i will cut it that bit smaller. nice work as allways tho. 

 

 

 

Ahh i know its a pain when it happens but beginners mistakes i guess haha, we'll both learn to do it properly after are projects

I,ve had it many time from when i firt started welding Tom haha, not good atall, like sand being rubbed in your eyes, dont think i slept for a few nights with it!

 

Only reasons it happened is because are old reactive masks battery wasnt being charged from the solar panel on the front of the mask so wasnt working atall in effect, and also when i first welded i just pointed and pressed whilst looking at it with no MASK! haha

 

My old man got a funny burn the other day after welding with a gas welder, because he had his shirt undone he had a rad patch going down his chest and stomach haha

i had that yesterday after doing that quarter my neck went all red from the shape of the shirt and my arms went red. thats gone now but i was up at 2 in the morning and couldnt see out my eyes and my eye lids have swollen now. i have put tea bags cucumber ice peas wet towel and non have worked really i am considering the black pudding next. haha

Sounds like a good enough excuse for time off work Tom, maybe allow for enough recovery time and mini time ey ?

Finally got round to doing something on the Chekmate today yeay

Wasnt much but getting back into the feel of it now...

My mum decided she wanted to "Help Restore the mini"  :

 

We I was cleaning up the Apost lowwer area today and also i cleaned up and primed the offside of the bulkhead getting ready for abit of black!

 

I,ve decided that the sheet im covering the car in is im convinced making it rust more from moister so i,ve taken that off and just sheeted the front up,

from it rusting because of the sheet i noticed pricks of rust in the frontal area and guttering of the roof so i decided it needed a T-cut and shampoo haha:

 

And then.................................................it started raining!  , so on went the blue sheet over the front and progress ends there for now:

 

Update next time when:

 

A) The weathers good

B) I can be bothered

C)I'm not working on the mk2

D) I'm not working on the metro

And E) After the 15th because im at the bank to sort my account out and....oh....its my B-day haha what a way to spend it at the bank   the joys of being young at heart but a older lad in reality

Failed to mention in my post there that i,ve cleaned the A-post up and as you might be able to see in the pre-clean up photo theres a crack around the hinge studs so i'l be cuttin that out and replacing as i did on the upper one on the other side

Haha yeah much stuff indeed   :lol:Doh! 

 

Want to get this offside A-post sorted and protected then fit the flitch like i did on the otherside so i can then fabricate up some top closing plates that are supposed to be there on the flitch but with it being a flitch Repair its not complete so 'l use my mk1 flitch panel as a guide to make a template out of card and then make and weld them in

Was planning on making some good progress today and uploading you guys and girls some pictures tonight but the welders playing up so i have only a half welded in panel at the minute im afraid   sorry about that folks, shame aswell because the weathers smashing today aswell

Nah, it was scrapped   Gutted doesn't describe it.   Goin to build a replica though.
