Ahh i'l have a ganders now ;)
Ooo already well on your way there then
, so have you got a metro in your sights then nath ?
At present yes but after getting sick of it splattering i'l be going back to gass, gassless is triky stuff to weld using as the "Puddle" is hidden by the flux shield, only reason we went to gassless i becaiuse BOC was charging us £70 a bottle and 2/3rd's leaked out of the bleeding thing
But found a new supplier at £35 a go so hopefully yo'll se much better welds soon enough haha

Right not much of an update but some "Progress" photos anyway...
I was hoping to finish off the A-post repairs today but just about managed to make a start as the welder packed up
So heres the half completed work haha
Obviously the sill's will be being replaced and also i decided the doorsteps are beyond there best so i cut out part of the doorstep for better A-post access:
Cut out the old piece and mocked up my new piece:
When i was cleaning the surface rust up wiht the grinder and knotted wheels attachment it all of a sudden kicked back and ended up shredding abit of my arm and ending up jammed in my hirt still trying to spin so i quickly went for the plug so it couldn't wiz round anymore haha think it belted me a few times but was more concerned about stopping it than what it was doing haha, anyway heres a damage report :
Hopefully the MIG will be back up and running soon with gas this time haha
Cheers
Cliff

Wasn't too bad pain wise to be honest but the skin in that area is just ppure red so think its managed to take off a good few layers haha, now i just need to shed a few tears and the "Blood, sweat and tears" line will be complete!
If i get anymore good weather days and no work i shall cry
Well its on gassless at the minute which is good for very light hobby welding but gassless combined with a welder thats older than me isnt the best of mixtures haha, i'l have to ask my old man to have a look at it as im crap at electrics! if i tried to fix it it'd be "Blood, sweat, tears and electrocution"

Haha, ahh it is a terrifically terrifying thing to have happen
It happens all the time to me when i clean up the edge of a panel ect.. but there only minor little ones, this one was a biggy haha, i was cleaning the bottom of the A-post were i made the doorstep cut out and if you look at the photo theres a gap just to the side of the bottom were i was cleaning, it caght in there whipped round (possibly hit my chin) and ended up hitting my arm and going into my shirt haha, also when i kept wrapping itself in my shirt it became a womens bikini top for a short while till i un-wound the grinder
Still happy though that it didn't break the grinder or go in my face (now that would have made a good picture)

Wear a face mask!
I wear some clouded goggles at the minute but i was watching some youtube video of a guy cutting a tree down in canada (Don't ask why) and saw he had a full face mask that flipped up like a welders mask so might/WILL invest in one of those too
Thanks

Cheers Aye, I will find a base model shell without an engine in at some point, and bin what I don't need, then build it up slowly while I do my apprenticeship.
And yeah, we go to cheshire gas, and usually it's £40 for initial bottle rental, and then there's no rent, and about £25 to fill, which is really good. Filled to 3000 psi iirc.
Nasty stuff with the grinder, I usually make the wheel work away from the corner piece I'm wire wheeling, as it means it doesn't catch, and won't injure me
And it's a good thing you wear goggles, as Imagine one of those hitting your eye, doesn't bare to think about to be honest

Well you can give M&M's in warington i ring as he has mini and metro stuff, i bought my metro shell for the rear end off him delivered
Are you doing A-series or K-series ?
Ahh i remember someone posting a link to a guy on another forum which showed this blokes eye close up after he had grinding sparks or something go in, can't inagine the pain from a wire going in, safety is first these days for me, never used to wear any protection ataall till i saw that :/
Just had a look at cheshire gas and they dont list argon (pure) on there website, do they deliver also ?
Posted 16 August 2013 - 10:38 PM
Ah right! I'm going a series all the way!! I also know where I can get a 998 engine for £10 lol, so I have the power plant sorted haha
And yeah, I started wearing gloves, ear defenders, masks, goggles, etc when my dad slit his knee open with a 9" angle grinder. And I hate sparks
I was even scared of using the mig welder at first, so I put every bit of clothing I could on to stop me getting burnt
We use argoshield (argon and co2 mix) which is great. And if I rember rightly yes they might. If not they're in ashton (might be too far)
