Hi cliff..... is the thickness good or bad compared to others ?

Cheers j

Well to be honest it's average James,  i'd, in an ideal world get 1.2mm sheet steel from a supplier and then Fabricate my panels and repair pieces from that.

Being thicker it obviously will last longer against not rust because that's down to the paint protection, but thickness gives a safeguard against rot, which if in a postion of using as a daily drive gives you abit of leeway on timescale of work.

All of the body on a mini is around thick thickness, excluding parts like the Bulkhead Crossmember which is 2mm.

Haha, yeah think I might buy in bulk next time I get into town Ben ;)

In my mind it was well worth the risk considering the Genuine one would work out at £70!!!, money I can't afford to throw into just two Doorsteps.

Also pretty happy with the outer sill, it required cutting down abit but other then that it's top notch!

Is the new one fitted there in the pics mate ? When I looked at mine it didn't look like too much difference to the original

I got my a posts from there aswell which seemed a nice thickness too.... And passenger front and rear floor......and a god awful inner sill repair......

Cheers j

Hi James,

No I'd just mocked it up in place over the original, still need to take measurements again before I cut the original doorstep out and then weld in, then it's a case of coating the sill cavity and sticking the outer sill on.

Have bought a few sheets of sand paper the Key up the panels today, should be in Zinc by 3 O'clock and ready to start fettling for fitting later on tonight hopefully.

Thanks Tom :).

Well today I got the Sandpaper I needed from Halfords and keyed up the two panels, and then I cut out the old Doorstep which was a MESS!!! and welded in the new one.

Also had the do a little patch just above the panel on the A-post, still need to be ground down a lot yet but the fitment is good so that's all I was concerned about.

Happy Birthday Cliff!!

Hope you had a great day

Ben

Thankyou Bne, much appreciated.

Yeah progress went quite ok to be honest, didn't spend too much time out but all in all happy with the result, also in other news I stripped an Old Laptop to components and cleared out the dust from the fan which wasn't working and overheating it were it would black screen, put it all back together expecting it to be broken because everything I strip usualy never lives to see another day   and yeah...it's works! and has been left on for the past 1hour or so, which makes it quite a successful repair :D .

I'm considering myself basically a Major Level 9 PC Genius now like....just have the Skillz! :shades:  Hahha
