Update,

Nothing major to update really, got the front subframe stripped, it's not in too bad a condition actually so I'll be sticking with it. It's now ready to be sent off for blasting and coating. -

Update,

Received a few items I ordered last week.

Complete black seatbelt set, superb condition, very happy with them -

eb618b0c7915db96d1e0fbf11e9fe8db_zps45e1

Smiffys bits, one rear subframe kit is my dads and so are a set of the door stricker plates -

b701459cd70e1fd6ad5d94f945b3b676_zps9bcc

I've been doing a couple of hours a day before work this week just to try and keep it moving, as I won't be doing anything this Saturday as I'm going to pick up my 1275 and a few other things.

So, removed some more bits and pieces -

14ce0eb95037e1b2c3933819702b0067_zps87ed

And I also started removing the remains of the old floor pan and inner sill, the toe board section is going to need a new lip making up as it's too far gone -

06f01812026ef99adfd7791f1de14ef2_zps7063

I'm going to be keeping the inner sill stifferner and the subframe closing panel as there in pristine condition, not to sure on the heelboard section yet though so will have to have a dig at it tomorrow -

Rusty pieces of Mini -

Should be picking up my half floor panel from minispares tomorrow or Saturday so should get that welded in Sunday !

Update,

Been a good weekend, very busy but worth it in the end, I'll start with the parts I bought.

Went to Minispares to collect the panel I ordered, it's heritage as well, wasn't expecting it to be -

091d68cbd76316a89a3dfc65848a6846_zps34f6

Then me, my dad and uncle went to pick up my 1275 engine, purchased from a member on here who's been very helpfully and generous, he's helped me out massively with this engine ! Here it is as we got it back to mine -

352766f05a975c90b68d278af9063308_zpsf456

e786c65bb4445b7e82541b7a32cd37e5_zps16c6

Stripped from the subframe -

972a574e9c5d10ee6b73a77f09206b6c_zps50ab

Also came with a HIF44 carb which I'm pleased about -

dc80bcda9f04679d59cf19b50dfb4023_zps29f8

40cc85dc339504f5110f97907ec4f1eb_zpsa13c

I have now removed all the ancillaries and popped the head off to check the bores. They're in superb condition, can still see and feel the hatch markings which you would expect with it being a low milage engine. Going to clean it up and have got a few ideas in mind for it.

Today I got back to the bodywork and went about fitting the new floor pan.

Chopped out the rot on the toe board lip -

f17417f5a6cc5900bb9f4ba93be5a206_zpsf614

Made a new lip and clamped it in place -

d80d784b0409551d10461dd96cb13b6f_zpsd0b1

Welded in -

e04f3dbf26a560b8e87bd98298ed1409_zps75c6

Also welded up the pilot holes made from drilling out the old spot welds -

224d5c8206d6b95f1125fa29ce3a86d5_zps6442

All ground down -

7cf2fc549f6839f1c4fafb7e7b471c02_zpsc670

Primed up -

919dfbcedfdefe87e84b23133d759e32_zpsdff4

Then I trimmed the floor to size and drilled all the holes in it that I'll be plugging from inside the car, haven't welded it in yet as I've got a small repair to do on the heel-board lip first. I've also left the heel-board end piece in place for now to make sure what happened with the other side doesn't happen again ! I'll replace this when I've welded the floor in.

So, here it is clamped in place ready to go for tomorrow, ran out of time today.

b1c96314b90dbfca2f4e119510599fd5_zps90e0

My dads also been ringing around a few body shops to get a quote for the respray, got a company saying they'll do any fillering required, priming, painting inside and outside and a machine polish after for a very reasonable price. They've got a booth and oven, but I'm going to pop down there next weekend to look at some of their previous and current work to make sure Ill be getting it done properly !

Got a week off in four days time so I'm going to put a BIG panel order in to M - Machine and get all the passenger side finished off and maybe even start the front end with a bit of luck :-).

Update,

Got the floor pan welded in today, not much left to do on this side now !

Made a small repair to the heelboard lip, tacked in place -

Shaped and zinc primed -

a3f315f809ae2981f757e552a1117bf6_zpsc455

Then plugged the floor to the toe board, inner sill stiffener and pulse welded to the tunnel, still have the heel board corner to replace and doorstep but it's getting there -

Parts update,

Received the panels I ordered from M-Machine, I've got a week off work now so hopefully I should get this lot welded in, and then it's just a front end to sort out !

Here's the panels -

54b0ca40d2f14614e94e581c41fec3d5_zps1cb0

Decided I wasn't happy with the crossmember so I've decided to replace the whole thing. I've already removed the R/H section of crossmember so won't take much to weld this in.

Just got to get an outer sill and that's all the panels for the passenger side !

Update,

Haven't been able to get any bodywork done today due to the weather, but I have managed to degrease the whole engine. I've also removed the head and got that stripped down.

Degreaser I bought -

Engine degreased and head removed -

a1544effb91536af053a2f8cd684b542_zpsc589

The bores are excellent, just need to de-coke the pistons and top edges of the bores -

913946b2d896e91daf60ca263cafb355_zps8c37

And the head stripped down -

1aba207945242a44a2e690fc5e917065_zpsc6c5

Valves and springs taped together, numbered and stored away. (The rusty bolts on top of the rockers are the manifold studs in case anyone was wondering) -

185f9b135128a77d88ac7043fdb6ed52_zpse3f2

Think I may send the head of to be skimmed, ported and flowed but I'm not to sure on how far I want to go with this at the moment. I may keep the engine original seeing as it's in very good condition, will get some prices of the work I want carried out and make my decision from there.

Will hopefully be doing some bodywork tomorrow as long as it doesn't rain ! :-)

Update,

Well I got the welder out yesterday and made a bit of progress with the body work, coming along nicely now !

So, I removed the old heelboard corner and cut it to fit -

7dff8a41578dea6aabf737db33f81d09_zps2453

05321c1c2df8eb813f162286efbeff5f_zps222b

a0ce64070b825c66f116421bbb1b02dc_zps5e78

I did weld this in but forgot to take a picture so will upload one tomorrow !

I also got the doorstep in, magnum panels are absolutely terrible so had to make some modifications to it.

Had to slit the panel in order for it to fit -

d2642587db5fc470d7b13c47a0132449_zps1ce6

Fitted in place ready to be welded -

450bf77cc665f55d9711b43a760e1e55_zps5e14

Welded in, I need to finish grinding it down, should be an invisible repair when I've finished, will still need a lick of filler after though -

0955313f3757cb86ac97db2d7316eee2_zps9237

That's all the progress from yesterday, been sorting out the shed today as we couldn't move in there due to so many parts, so no time to work on the Mini :(

Going to have lots of parts up for sale soon though ranging from interior pieces to whole engines so take a look :D

Parts Update,

Got a nice big package today which I've been eagerly awaiting for the past week or so.

The contents -

b6cb413070b1595e26f79174d899aab0_zpsc118

48eda55dfa6558a6334c1164ba3fbc9c_zps0cd4

179a379119cd2839e5f2a367d69cdf02_zpsf14b

MPI two speed heater, it's absolutely mint and I'm very happy with it ! Wired it up and it all works brilliantly, the matrix looks brand new and doesn't leak, I think it's quite rare to find one with all the correct ducting now. Been searching for a few months but had no joy as there were none on eBay or anywhere for that matter, luckily someone responded to my wanted add on here and the rest is history !

Sod's law I get a week off work and it rains constantly ! Planned to get the passenger side finished but the weather keeps holding me back !

Update,

Got a fair bit to update, so I'll start with my cyclinder head.

Firstly I degreased it, then I removed all of the old paint, rust and de-coked, came up really well -

d80448991494fccd2831960d67ed5185_zpsacd6

9d417405f3656e51ef6515e25b4bffe3_zpsef61

Then I did the same with the valves, my hi-tech valve spinning machine -

a22a9c071417940ef5a3d9b509f334b0_zps1ab8

A quick before and after -

a17c5c9d728dccbea765004eaa826dd6_zpsa03b

58fff7129aacb5a7c53d17ff7d867ad2_zpse60b

A trip to Minispares later and I've (almost) got everything needed to rebuild the head, inevitably I forgot some things as you do -

14c4327dfb3616cb492a4a12e5dcf8c8_zpsd83b

Then I continued by painting the head, had to be red, so happy with how it came out :-) -

9c8444684ba7bd3b432ddb7dd6a1f7cb_zpsc709

Then I lapped the valves in, hardly any wear in the guides and well within tolerances -

3e7bdd06eedbb17e594859bc157cb8d0_zps6a04

Valve stem seals fitted -

d0daf302f066d6b107614eee9b3cf0cc_zps3241

Valve springs fitted -

acc8961a81c61716bb2d979927f08dd7_zpsae2d

And rockers fitted into place -

ab25572d73def36f9b5c9a6a88af78bf_zpsee65

Will hopefully be getting my metro turbo rocker cover polished so should look the business !

Now onto today's work, which was bodywork, and involved fitting the new crossmember. Went in with relatively little effort, a credit to M-Machine for the quality of their panels !

So, here's some pictures of the fitting process, primed the inside -

f1f53a819a39d9de5cd35fafb5e51c27_zps91ec

Then applied some top coat to the inside -

c0e12ad74ae2352be3a3046e8333323a_zps3f2c

And then a bit of a jump, but welded into place and the bracing removed -

1398595c8ebb731db76881c0eed18d5f_zpsb7b1

dd6430a5ee9f0fcc70ce1dbda37dc98d_zps568f

Got the welds ground down silky smooth, thanks to the new electric file, great little tool -

2c2b938721272f2f6c74d5b5cf19c7ca_zps4cec

And then primed up -

7fdf570a34d77eb640e74de44d1b5ce2_zpsba94

Little hole in subframe closure plate that had to be repaired, so I widened it out to a square shape and made a small repair piece -

311aee083063298e8a1c803d20ddbde0_zpsb32c

Repair piece -

335ab8447111bbb099e214f787db31ba_zpsdee2

Welded up -

e4062f0d208e1798c6c4c984eb8eb098_zps20d4

And to finish of the update I also got these in the post -

4181cd730bb2029e3515907bd9dd2116_zps8ade

Reverse side of the petrol bib -

2766e27c5ea114a9e027a7a5c567e129_zpsc7e4

That's it for now !

Great job on that cylinder head, looks really good. I like that fuel bib, also want one like that. Where did you get it from?
