If you're changing the valve stem oil seals you'll have to take the head off so you'll need another head gasket.

It is 20-50! Fingers crossed guys!! The tool I've bought apparently allows you to do the valve seals without having to remove the head so hoping to get away with not replacing the hg!

Be careful you don't lose any collets down the oil ways (or anywhere else)

Are the valve stem seals hard to do? Should I do them first then change the oil or do the oil and if that doesn't work do the stem seals?? Thanks

I've never done valve stem oil seals with the head in place.

I might give the oil change a go first

Woop quick question just say the oil had worked and its still blue smoke could that be residue from somewhere or should it have stopped smoking straight away?? Thanks for you help

You'd have to take it for a bit of a run to clear it.

What's the chances of it being piston rings? I'm assuming if it is these it's a complete rebuild?

One more question ive read everywhere and everyone says "change the valve seals but it wont make a difference" thinking back when we did it we only had 4 that came with the kit if we didn't replace all 8 could that have made a difference? I really need this to work lol I'm getting married in Oct need the wonga but at the same time cant sell it knowing its not mechanically sound its not fair!

A compression test may tell if it is the rings although it depends if it is the oil crontrol ring that has worn. I still think you should take if for a decent run and get the emmisions checked at a garage........

can you post a video of the smoke?

Take it for a good long thrash, and see if it clears. I dont mean a run around the block, I mean a proper, spirited drive on some country roads, load it up, see if it's using any oil or fouling plugs, if it doesnt clear, get a compression test done, don't throw money at things like valve stem seals and rebuilds if you don't have to. A compression, vacuum and cylinder leakdown test will give you some answers to your questions.

A guy at work is bringing in his compression tester tomoro so will have a look at that! I will put a video on youtube tho evening of the smoke and let you see what its like its pretty bad to be honest! Does it have to be driven or can it just be revved on the drive (not insured at the minute u see) spose I can drive it round the farm??

Nope, it needs to be put under load.

If someone else can drive it, take it out for a good, long run, and give it some stick.
