Hi all,

In the process of rebuilding my gearbox and I am missing the clamp plate that secures the speedo drive housing. Can I substitute with some washers and loctite 243 on the bolt or is it absolutely necessary to install the clamp? Also missing is the countersunk screw for the mounting block that was replaced with a spacer nut and regular 5/16” long bolt at some point in the past. Can I re-install as is? Thank you in advance!

The original speedo drives were a type of plastic and didn't have the clamp. I can only guess they evolved to what they were (alloy housing and the clamp) from issues and warranty claims, so I'm inclined t say 'yes' it is necessary. The other issue I can see not having the clamp is you might get an oil stain around it, oil won't pour out.

As long as the bolt and nut still have clearance to the harmonic damper, you can run it like that. The ADO16 had a bolt here.

Can’t remember which way the work works but if it is trying to push the drive out I would find and fit .

Thanks you kindly for your advice. The clamp and bolt were both missing when I pulled the engine so you can imagine the resulting oily mess. They seem to be a somewhat rare item these days unfortunately. MiniSpares is out of stock and the only other place I could find that has them is Minisport Australia but I’d rather not pay $55 for shipping. If anyone knows where I can find one a bit more reasonably priced please let me know!

Couldn’t you have a go at making one doesn’t look that complicated?

Unfortunately, I do not have the proper materials and equipment to make one at the moment so in the end might be cheaper purchasing one second hand.

There must be something that could be adapted without too much effort. How about a bicycle cone or angle grinder spanner?
