Hello helpful mini experts,
I’m doing my first 998cc engine rebuild and spent yesterday afternoon assembling the bottom end. Crank installed with assembly lube on bearing shells and centre cap torqued so to measure endfloat, spun the crank maybe 5 revolutions to check for binding and all good. taken the crank back out and all three of the new case side shells (main cap shells showing no wear marks, assumed as block upside down so weight is on case shells) have some light scuffs and scratches. Is this normal “break in” wear of the Babbitt material?
Or have I not cleaned the journals sufficiently so need to order new shells??
If the latter, how can I make sure everything is perfectly clean? because I spent a couple hours cleaning and used 2 cans of brake clean.
Crank has been reground.
Cheers
Rob
