Here's the rear painted in blue for now just to keep the water out of the filler and primer. Also nearly there on filling in the left hand drive wiper holes.

Here are some pics of the boot release I made up for a few that have asked. Not very good pics as i was bending round in shapes i didn't know i could.

I got a bonnet release from a car I was stripping down for someone. Got the cable, handle and locking bit. Then made up a bracket that bolts to the underside of the parcel shelf. I took out the spring from the release mechanism as it was too strong and mounted the handle at the front of the rear bin where the front seatbelt mounts. (no seatbelt anymore) All I need to do now is strengthen the parcel shelf but it all works good.

cheers screech. The only thing that's being a bugger is the amount the parcel shelf moves. Gonna have to get some steel plates on top and underneath to help strengthen it. Stop it flexing.

Quick question on the boot release, what happens if/when the cable snaps?

Wow that boot release looks very well done, looks professional - well though out. The handle is mounted conveniently too!

But what makes the boot pop out when you pull the handle if you've removed the spring?

If I remember right it's the seal around the boot pushing on the door that makes it pop out a little. It does it with a little clunk too so you know it's opened. If the cable snaps (which it shouldn't as there is very little stress on it, unlike a bonnet) then you stick your hand through one of the holes in the shelf and you can get at the mechanism. Pull the clip and it'll pop open. I'm gonna make it so the parcel shelf cover is easily removable.
Also I'm fitting an aftermarket dash light cluster and will have the handbrake light conected to the light switch in the boot so you know if it's not closed.
