I'm going mk1 boot eventually so cba at the minute!! Its actually an old chrome one, but its pitted and knackered hence the grey look!

;D

Mk1 boot would look ace.

Not with mkIII lights they dont.

Get some mkII rear lights, and as for a 544 in a 998, it wont be nice at all. Will be a hog to drive.
It'll bog down and then pick up about 2500-3000 rpm, ok itll probably carry on till 8500rpm but on a 998 a 544 really is asking for trouble.
Dont get me wrong i LOVE lairy cams, but the 544 and 649 require a lot of upgraded performance parts. Im talking lightend and balanced everything, crank needs to be top of the range and head will need to be miglia spec on a pocketed block. Its a lot of trouble and a lot of money.
I was planning on using a 649 on my 1048 and that was going to cost a bomb.
On a 998 best cam would be either a Kent 276 or posisbly a 286, but a 286 is lairy enough in my 1293!

Just out of interest what make cam is it? there were a lot of so called "544's" floating about. I know leyland did one and kent another.

Bugger lol! I got it cheap so no real worries, was ideally looking for a 731, I was hoping the 544 would be alright, cheers for the info dude!!

Yea mkII lights are on the wish list aswell, but i'm pretty skint at the minute, so doing little bits at a time!

Just wondering does the mk 1 grill and mustache fit straight on a mk 4? thinking of doing this myself looks great.

Well, looks like the engine will be going in sooner than expected....Coming back from work yesterday my water pump died, needless to say it got rather warm! Blew the head gasket and got oil in the combustion chamber, took thew head off when i got back and been cleaning it up and having a look at it tonite, thankfully my head is fine(need it for the engine im putting in) , no cracks, no warping and the valves all came out ok! I'm relieved there was no more damage!!

Rob.

Not directly, you need to drill a couple of mounting holes, as they screw on in a different place..also you need to get rid of the lip on the bonnet, theres a fair few threads about on how to do this

Been cleaning up the bores and pistons of my new 998 today, found out there +0.030 pistons in there, not that that small an increase in displacement will give a significant amount of extra power!! But tis good to know it has been rebuilt fully, as my dad wasn't 100% sure wether he'd just rehoned it or put new pistons in all those years ago!

I just some how manahed it!!! I've heard that if you wet it all with soapy water its easier, and then squeegy out all the water so it sticks.

If it's the old stick-back plastic then the best way to fit it is using a hairdrier so you make it nice and pliable. Use same method to remove then it doesn't take any paint of and comes off in one piece.
