Don't know whether you've heard of them with you not being here for while but smart performance do good engines, fairly cheap aswell. Also, mini forum people get a discount aswell :D. Chris, from there, is on here (smart01c i think his user name is). It's just another option for you to look at.

Been out in the garage again today...nearly ready to lift the engine just need to disconnect the gear shift from the back of the box! My new engine crane and hydraulic jack arrived yesterday aswell, so will hopefully get the engine out tomorrow....then I can crack with stripping down the bulkhead ready for spraying, i've decided i'm probably gonna drop the front subby aswell so I can give the whole front end a real good cleanup and treat the rust that will inevitably be hiding in it!! All boring stuff but it needs doing before I can consider putting a decent lump in there!

Rob.

Well its been a productive weekend! The engine bay is now fully stripped out (bar the loom) and ready to be cleaned treated and painted....also dropped the front subby and rack so i can paint right under there fully and plate up any holes I find.

Ive taken the doors off now aswell so the shell is looking pretty bare...but thankfully i've not found too much rot so not much welding needed!!

Just wish I said some moola so I can start buying some shiny bits like an engine and a few uprated bushes for the front subby.

Well spent a bit of money on it recently....bought myself a weber 40 and manifold for my new engine build...as its going to be my second car i'm going to try and squeeze as much power out of it as i can so after speaking to a couple of people in the know decided a weber would be the way togo...hopefully going to put megajolt on it aswell so I can put a slightly hotter cam in to match up with the webers tuning possibilities!!

Got a solid mount front subby kit and some uprated bushes and new ball joints etc to overhaul the front suspension.

Fair bit of progress since I last posted on here!! I've now completely stripped down the front subby and engine bay, cleaned painted and reaassembelled the lot with solid mounted subby and various other bits and bobs like ball joints n that.

Starting on the floor pans this weekend, they'll need some patches in the footwell area and few other holes to weld up....hoping i can get it done over the long weekend we've got...should keep it on track for L2B!!

On a more exciting note got the new engine sorted, i'm having a 1380 unit built up by smart performance with ST3 head, fully lightened and balanced bottom end and a piper 285 cam! Bought some SC drops n all so coupled with the weber its gonna be loud!! Should fly though, hoping for somewhere round the 100bhp mark. Not going to put this engine in for L2B though, would be a bit of a rush to get it fully in and running, plus woudn't want to risk having the temptation to boot it before its run in!

I'll chuck some pictures up of the progress so far tomorrow if I get round to it!

well suprisingly for once its all going well!! I've now got all the plates made up for patching the various holes i've got in my floor pans and inner door step...so will hopefully have them all welded in by the end of the week!

Got bored of welding yesterday so decided to start making my new dash and tidying the wiring a bit, cause it'll need changing now i've got a weber box...looks a bit shabby at the minute but i'm going to eventually trim it all out in some sort of low glare material (would LOVE to flock it and te dash rails but thats mega bucks and as the rest of the car is a bit of a shed i can't see any point in having a super posh interior!) Dunno wether i'll have it covered before L2B cause its getting close now and I need more emphasis on getting it through an MOT

Heres a couple of pictures of what i've been upto.

I've now got all the welding done :) need to dress the welds and paint then should be good!!

I've also put the engine and braklines etc back in...not started it up yet though 'cause I still need to sort a fuel pump (managed to snap a peg off the mechanical pump when I took the engine out!!)

Got the wiring 90% finished aswell got rid of those nasty inline fuses and relocated the fusebox to within the dash. STarted mocking the dash up a bit more aswell...should look sweet when its all finished1

Going to put in ther smiths gauges I had on my centre pod at first...no sense in spending more money and gauges when the old ones will do!
