Cheers mate :shy:.

Started to rebuild the gearbox tonight, got the mainshaft and reverse gear in aswell as the 3rd motion bearing, need to get some new thrust washers for the laygear as its slightly out of tolerence (0.002") and also a 0.003" bearing retainer shim, so im stuck now until I can get over minispares. I had the block, crank and pistons back from the machining place last night, the crank had worn down by 0.002" which was a bit on the worse side.

The work they have done is spot on and would definatly use them again, very helpfull and understanding aswell.

Some pictures (Not the best).

Update time!

Finally made some progress on the gearbox today, after spending roughly 2 weeks ordering and waiting for parts etc, and poping the syncros 3 times! when rebuilding it. Just got to torque it up, rebuild the diff and put the speedo housing on.

Then next week I can start building the engine. Had the last bit of machining done to the block (skimmed 5 thou) today, so its ready to be built ;). Im going to do one final check on measurments before I order the head aswell.

Paul.

Well, one step foward and five back the last week or so.

Went to torque the gearbox up and found out that the non-genuine baulk rings where locking the gearbox, so after stripping it apart twice, I finally got 2 genuine ones to place on 2nd and 3rd, result? one smooth gearbox.

Been building my minispares cross pin diff (just to be on the safe side) today, come to torque the crown wheel up and the diff locked up, had a feeling it would be the fibre washers but fired a post up in the techy section to make sure and was quickly answered (cheers sprocket). So I got to take it to bits again and put my original washers in (not a big job).

Also to add to my spec list is a set of s/c drops and a MED pre-verto flywheel/clutch setup, this mild build is turning out to be not so mild now (mild went out the window when the bores went up to +40 ).

Heres a picture of the diff built up anyway.

Also managed to stripdown and rebuild my diff again today, fitting the original fibre washers and it spins freely.

Oh and ive brought some s/c drop gears today aswell

Update time.

Finally managed to finish off the gearbox yesterday, just need to sort out the diff shimming. With the balancers not being open until Monday it means I haven't been able to start the build because I want to get the crank balanced beforehand. Hopefully I can get the crank done for mid week, they say its a couple of days turn around, £80 to have it done, which I think is not too bad.

Been painting my transfer case, wok, timing cover and backplate today. They look smart when you put some extra time into prepping them, when I did the 'box on my daily I just sprayed silver over the ali bits to tidy it up and didn't bother prepping because I needed to get the car back on the road.

Im also moving my operaton to the smaller garage because the big garage is too big and cold and because of the corrigated roof being metal it gets condensation and damp. Smaller garage will be drier and warmer.

Spent a good few days cleaning the bits to be painted because they where caked in crap. Cleaned up really nice I think.

Some pictures.

Fitting my x-pin diff :).

Just look at my carefully modified breather :).

Backplate, didn't paint all of this because most of it isn't visable and I wanted a clean surface for the gaskets, the other side (timing gear side) is still in bare metal.

So hopefully next weekend or sooner I can start building the engine.

christ dude, that timing cover cleaned up well!

i'm sure i recognise that silver paint too :)

do you want to drop round one of the nights and we can check your flywheel backplate lugs are the right height and you're getting full clamping force?

Could do yeh. Might be mid week though Nick because the crank will go going to the balancer begining of the week with the flywheel.

Do you need the fly to check or just the back plate?

Yeh that timing cover on took me half an hour, with grinding the tab down on the back for the timing chain then cleaning it up.

Id be scared to look at the condition of that engine :D.

Moved into the smaller garage today, and you can tell its alot warmer in there, bench is bigger aswell.

Gave the stuff a good check over when moving it over and all seems well, dont like leaving engines in bits for too long. But hopefully can start on it next week .

Also (forgot to mention) I brought the high temp engine paint today, not going to say what the colour is but I dont think an engines ever been painted in this colour, they said it produces more power for the engine because it disperse's heat better.

yeah need the complete assembly chap, flywheel, backplate, plate and diaphragm with all the bolts and straps etc.

need to assemble the lot and see if the spring is sitting flat, if not then you'll need to get some machined off the lugs.
