Unfortunately I'm blocked from it at the moment but I'll take a look - slight reservation about the name though, it's the UK government and all car dealers/makers who are taking part so why single out BMW?woooooo 98 people have joined the petition already guys! there is a lot of support out there!
Have you signed the Classic Car Weekly petition?

its not a petition about the scrappage scheme! its about how they are using classic cars to promote it!Unfortunately I'm blocked from it at the moment but I'll take a look - slight reservation about the name though, it's the UK government and all car dealers/makers who are taking part so why single out BMW?woooooo 98 people have joined the petition already guys! there is a lot of support out there!

If they wanted it to be eye catching they should have put an old M3 up there but I guess they would not want to tarnish BMW would they!!! .
I have stated I don't like to see this and have protested by email...........but like it or not, a Mini from 1994 onwards was actually a BMW Group vehicle. It was produced by a BMW Group owned factory at the time and later upgraded to MPI spec in 1997 with major BMW investment to allow the Mini to be built for a further 4 years.............against the wishes of Rover management who had planned to stop production in 1997.

and its not just minis which are at risk here, its any classic, and there are alot of classics worth alot more than minis which are prob going in for this scrappage scheme not to mention there are some which are rare enough to start with.
surely anyone in the right mind would have the sense to keep their classic, no matter on what make it is.
*sigh*
but, i suppose for all the knowledgeless numptys that send their cars in for such things will only make the prices of our minis etc go up?

The whole scrappage arguement is backwards, saving on pollution and Co2, but then making cars in the first place is the biggest pollutant, not the running of them. In theory, they should stop making new cars and make everyone fix the old ones - but who wants to do that in a Capitalist world where everyone wants the 'newest' thing.

I'm with you there comradeI think there is some stupid reasoning that classic cars are less economical - even though the Mini is still fairly economical.

And just to back you up here's some similar points made by the Green Party (I'm not a member I hasten to add, just found it on a Google search.)

What I don't understand is, why does the car have to have an MOT for it to be illegible for scrap?
The idea is to take an old car off the road.............not clear someones driveway of a scrap vehicle that has not moved in years.
Yes, many rare classics have already beeen traded in both in the UK (and Europe) as they are not worth £2000 on the open market, see my previous quote from Classic Car weekly.

Just the matter of disposing of the old car prematurely and making the new one then - surely that won't do much harm to the environment?
