where's it being removed to? so rather than being conserved (all be it for a short time) its now off to scrap yard?

a point someone else may have made...i just couldnt be bothered to read it after about the 6th page

There's nothing that can be done about that. If someone does want to scrap a Mini under this scheme then they have every right to. We all can disagree and not be happy about it as much as we want but because the government offer the scheme, people are going to take advantage of it. It just so happens that this happened at a New Mini dealership, it could easily have been a Peugeot dealership that took a classic Mini under the scheme and advertised the scrap scheme in this way. In fact that makes so much more sense because old Peugeots provide a Peugeot dealer with parts sales and servicing money. Why advertise using old cars of your own company? That actually raises an interesting theory... MINI UK could easily become a distributor of Classic Mini parts. That would show they actually care about keeping Classic Minis alive and on the road. It will never happen but I'd like to see it one day.

Right, on to the MPs next...

LOL, that'll be a slightly more difficult nut to crack methinks!

I have already sent off letters and emails, and have already had a phone call back from one government department who says; although they are extremely busy at the moment (elections if you didnt notice) they will discuss the issue and come back to me.

And this is someone actually phoning me from the Govt. not an automated response.

Fingers crossed.

The point of the campaign is that a classic Mini should not be used to encourage the scrappage scheme, and vice versa, the scrappage scheme should not encourage the scrapping of a classic Mini no matter which dealership (it just so happened to be BMW) - it's part of the British heritage and a design icon.

Blimey, you must write a damned good letter - want to write one to my bank manager?

Absolutely, with you all the way there :D

Have you spoken to anyone in the larger classic car movement at all? As you doubtless know mags like Classic Car Weekly have been campaigning on this for a while.

Personally I think all they need is some sort of 'get-out' clause for cars acknowledged to be classics (like the Mini) and rarer cars like the 1966 Austin 1100 (one of only 20 left on the road) mentioned in the last Classic Car Weekly so that in these circumstances the cars can be sold on in some way.

Thanks for all the effort you're obviously putting in on our behalf

That's not a bad response considering I only spoke to them this morning - so fair play to BMW.

* Takes a bow* - you're welcome.

Right, on to the MPs next...

Craig McBeth for PM!

I'd vote! :D

The Mini magazine editor just killed a mini?

Joke Joke, Good work. Now we have to work on saving the rest of the poor little classics :D. Can they not at least leave them somewhere so that we, the true mini enthusiast can savage parts, panels etc for our own cars?

They could do with a scheme like the heritage trust and greenbelt laws. areas of land can be protected from being built on, old buildings can be listed so cannot be torn down, surely a mini - playing a vital role in this country's history can become britain's first listed vehicle?

BMW OFFICIAL RESPONSE

"Douglas Park MINI of Hamilton did not intend to cause any offence by using a classic Mini to advertise the scrappage scheme in its dealer forecourt. BMW dealers in the area are using older BMW models in a similar manner and several other manufacturers have also adopted this approach. However, it is fully accepted that using a classic Mini in this way may have been interpreted as insensitive. This has been recognised and the car has now been removed.

BMW Group's commitment to celebrating half a century of MINI was clearly evident at MINI United, staged at Silverstone between 22-24 May. The event attracted 25,000 visitors and more than 10,000 classic and new MINI cars. BMW Group will also be supporting the IMM at Longbridge from 7-10 August 2009. "

cool good work, power to the people :D

Yeah more like 9950 BINI and 50mini
