Heres an idea, we could get a few people to 'break down' right outside the showrooms, blocking the entrances.

Not illegal, and they would have a hell of a job prooving other wise, cosidering everyone always say classic cars are unreliable.

I think we should do something serious about this, they clearly seem to think its a joke, and act like our heratige doesnt matter.

There must be someway in which we can organise a legal, protest?

I have already had several people copy me into letters written to Margaret, so thank you.

Hopefully one us will receive a reply and I will also look to pursue the issue through other avenues.

In the meantime, there obviously is enough people on this forum, other forums and through places like Facebook that feel very strongly about this so it looks like there is a lot of support and people willing to take action. Let's not rush into anything hasty, let's see what responses we get and if they are not reasonable then perhaps we should consider something more direct.

Any more letters anyone has sent are welcome to be sent to me, which I will keep names and personal details confidential. craig.mcbeth@futurenet.co.uk (work - Mini Magazine) or craig.mcbeth@gmail.com (personal email) - whichever you prefer.

OK I might get shot down into flames here, but I want to add a little perspective.

You're all acting like they're killing a member of your family. OK I agree that destroying a mini for advertising is not the best way to go, but if somebody (individual or company) buys something, it's up to them what they do with it. Its also up to the seller who they want to sell it to.

The people out there that appreciate classic cars simply won't trade them in, they'll sell them to enthusiasts. If you're all that bothered about this mini being crushed then simply go to the dealer and give them £2000 for it. I'm sure it could be sold as spares if the V5 has been submitted, or could be re-registered. It seems that people are all to quick to shout when things like this happen, but don't put their money where their mouth is.

Minis get destroyed all the time, when people write them off, take them banger racing, or indeed when they rust away. Saying that there is no respect for heritage is a bit rich. You could argue that someone filling a mini with big ICE, jewel lights and a VTEC engine is doing the same thing.

You can't save them all. The minis that are cherished by the mini scene will be the ones that last. Minis are machines, perishable goods, and nothing lasts forever. Don't get me wrong I love em, but I don't have the money or inclination to buy all of them that need saving.

Any Mini that is in an accident or sent to the scrapper has a chance of saving other minis through spares or has a chance of being picked up and restored - have you seen some of the sheds some people start with? But this scrappage scheme doesnt offer enthusiasts spares or the mini a chance of being saved. as soon as it is traded in, it HAS to be destroyed - no spares for anyone, no chance of it ever being saved - no matter what condition it is in.

What if someone who didnt know traded in their ropey 1959 mini because it was a bit rusty?

I know everyone wants to save the car but my issue is the advert itself, why do they have to use an old mini why not an old 3 series or just the crushed remains that's next to it. It's just like saying old Mini's are sh1te so scrap it and buy a Bini!!

I'm going to pop into BMW Maidstone tomorrow and have a rant.

Is the dealer in Maidstone really doing the same with a classic mini? I am currently talking to Mini uk about this advert and if another dealer is doing the same thing, the brown stuff will hit the fan!!!

There's a limit to what you can expect to achieve, if someone offers a Mini to a garage under the crappage scheme, their refusing it will just lose the sale, and Mini, to another garage. It's still well worth kicking up a fuss, I don't see why we can't persuade MINI and their dealerships, in particular, that it would be better business sense to save any half decent Minis when you set their resale value against £1k of government blood money.

Even if we don't save a single car we can milk the publicity, for Mini's benefit, as ruthlessly as any multinational business.

If anyone is close enough a good, and legal, photographic publicity stunt is worth considering. I did email a few National papers, but they aren't likely to initiate a story if they make money from related advertising accounts. Give them a good story to report and they might.

next idea just go and buy the classic car for 1500quid from the dealer, it means they make more profit as they as they have to stump up a grand toward the 2k scrappage so you get a cheap classic and they make more money

I think they have to scrap it though if they've accepted it under the scheme? Not sure, but it's definitely worth checking up on that.
