like it was pointed out allready i dont get it - does anyone know why it has to have a mot to be crushed? its not like there gonna drive it anywere is it?

ok... listen carefully :D

If it has an MoT then it's likely it is being taken out of use to be scrapped so you're replacing an old polluter with a "greener" new car.

No MoT = not on the road so not burning petrol 'n polluting. If you traded it in you'd be putting an extra car on the road without taking an old one off it, 'because it already was.

this is just an excuse to inject money into the economy really.

people buy there new cars companies make money through of which vat is paid and profit which corporation tax is also paid....

with cars selling people keep there jobs (NI also paid, more money), production remains open, our economy remains strong ish and as a perk for getting rid of a rather a lot of old cars i guess is our co2 emissions go down as a country.

think we have to remember that while i'm not agreeing with the way they have used a perfectly good mini or classic cars in general to benefit themselves from this scheme they like the politicians who thought of it are not people like us (not saying it makes it right) but we have to remember that....and there are people out there who to some minis are just 'cars'

i think a quick answer to the above is that car on drive with no mot dont cause pollution cars do with remember its all about the "go green campaign"

anyway dont snipe me as i dont agree with it either

BMW OFFICIAL RESPONSE

"Douglas Park MINI of Hamilton did not intend to cause any offence by using a classic Mini to advertise the scrappage scheme in its dealer forecourt. BMW dealers in the area are using older BMW models in a similar manner and several other manufacturers have also adopted this approach. However, it is fully accepted that using a classic Mini in this way may have been interpreted as insensitive. This has been recognised and the car has now been removed.

BMW Group's commitment to celebrating half a century of MINI was clearly evident at MINI United, staged at Silverstone between 22-24 May. The event attracted 25,000 visitors and more than 10,000 classic and new MINI cars. BMW Group will also be supporting the IMM at Longbridge from 7-10 August 2009. "

That's not a bad response considering I only spoke to them this morning - so fair play to BMW.

* Takes a bow* - you're welcome.

Right, on to the MPs next...

Yes, I think credit where credit is due and CMcB deserves a lot of it for getting this sorted out - well done mate, very well done :D

Right, on to the MPs next...

LOL, that'll be a slightly more difficult nut to crack methinks!

by the way, can I just say that IMHO people here have actually been pretty damned sensible and level headed about this matter so everyone deserves a pat on the back for being so level headed - I'm impressed and hopefully we can use this experience constructively to show we can deal with this sometimes thorny issue in a constructive fashion in the future.

I've actually spent much of the afternoon arguing the t*ss with 2 new MINI 'numpties' on a MINI forum (no names) who just don't get it. Thankfully most of the people there do get it but it has to be said every community has it's wind up merchants and plonkers - the majority aren't like that though and many have written to complain about what's happened so that may have helped too

Sweetness and light eh

Thanks for taking the time to email them and being persistent. A good response from them too.

It seems apparent that this particular dealer has no idea about all of our feelings when they used this advertising stunt. They should organise awareness sessions with Classic Mini owners for their staff so they know what to do and what not to do.

Totally agree, and I'd say a good start would be to sign the petitions against the scrappage scheme.

Unfortunately this damned scheme has no get out clause for classic or rare cars, something this government failed to do despite people pointing out the potential problem beforehand. So yes, if any car Mini or non-mini, rare or not so rare, is traded in under the scheme it has to be scrapped so I'm afraid that wee Mini is off to the crusher :D

The MP's wont be as easy!!! National awareness and a bit of pressure from all the classic clubs is needed even for them to look into it!! Media coverage is key!!
