No! All classic car scenes need to come together if this is going to work at all. Beetles have alot of people that will take part, and older skodas and volvos etc are alot more scarce than the mini is so these need to be saved even more so! We all need to unite.Yeh by all means scrap the old skodas, volvo's, saabs's, beetles but save our poor little mini and all those employed in it's restoration and parts, and all the other proper classic cars!! We are in a recession and they thought this would help but it's potentially putting people out of more jobs who are employed with the repairing etc... of these cars!!
Something needs to be done!!!!!

Its the DEALER that should be getting the brunt of the rage.
This issue is not really just about this particular Mini, its the scheme as a whole. I see no reason why people cant protest in a big way in London or something. People protest about anything these days!
Best thing to do is strike a sneaky deal with the scrapper, buy the classics on the cheap and hide them in a lock up for a few years where they can 'loose' their identity....!!!!
Rather have a classic on a Q plate than no classic at all.
*This is of course a joke and I wouldnt actually recommend this...LOL

MINI sales boss at DP, who identified herself to us only as Margaret (But we now know who you are!!), told MiniWorld that this Sports Pack Rover had indeed been swapped in for a MINI under the new government car scrappage scheme for private cars of 10 years old or more.
The owner may have received up to £2000 for it. Margaret added that their choice of an original Mini to advertise the car scrappage scheme was not official BMW policy.
We asked her if she understood the importance of original Mini as a classic car but she was unable to comment further. Douglas Park has no current plans to remove the Sport Pack Rover from their forecourt.
She was later heard to mutter under her breath "it's not a real Mini"
