What a lot of fuss about nothing.Providing the car is safe on the road it doesnt matter its history.

I disagree, if you did not know much about minis and you were told after buiying yours it was a ringer.... Would you be happy.

The cars that are getting nicked daily are being used for this reason... Like the bastards that tried to nick my mini 3 nights ago !!!!,

in that case i've got a one previous owner '59 mini, never had welding and doesn't need any, but it does look like an '89 city though. it's yours for £9k if you want it.

there are so many minis out there that are ringers, i bet 1/4 of the minis on here are! ive got a couple of logbooks (non tax exempt i may add) that ive kept over the years (before having to declare sorn) and one day ill build them back into cars (whether you lot like it or not) its jut how things are with minis, you will NEVER eradicate mini ringers, swapped identities, log book sales etc, no matter how hard you try, or who you report it to, it will carry on as long as there are minis left out there, once all the minis are gone (and one day it WILL happen, nothing lasts forever!) then and only then will it end...

so suck it up and get on with it lol

You could say that about most illegal activities, so I guess we don't need Police, Solicitors, Courts and prisons, we'll just all "suck it up".

It amazes me how many consider that there are shades of illegal, that those considered a lighter shade can be argued as acceptable and we all have to therefore accept it. A strange way of thinking me thinks.

Oh, by the way, my mini will last forever!! :)

im not the type to go around stealing peoples belongings, especially minis, but you all know it happens, and there is little anyone but the law can do about it, im just being totally to the point, it goes on, people buy minis, some know its not as it should be but still but it anyways, and there are those who are oblivious that the 1964 mk1 mini is actually a 1986 mayfair with a tax exempt log book thrown at it from a great distance, it will continue for how ever long minis are around, be it another 100years, or another 500 years (by then i think the mini will be long extinct!)

as for the books i have, i will find a shell to match the year or as close as possible, and build it up from a 2nd hand shell, like soooooo many other mini owners out there have done, and will continue to do so in future, its just what happens, illegal or not

Its not illegal to buy a logbook, its using it to put on another car that is illegal. after all werent most of the works rally cars registrations swapped between shells without notifying the dvla (or who ever it was back then)

I'm not condoning buying old log books and using them to sell fake minis - however if you only use the log book on your own mini then the only people who lose out are the govt. - big tears there then - people who ring cars are scum but they do it to make money by fraud - i dont think anyone here would do it for that purpose. Of course we are all law abiding citizens here and never ever copy/download music , games films etc etc ..........

Erm.... Interesting perception of tax fraud you have there!! :)

I would say that every person who deliberately defrauds the government by claiming that their vehicle is tax exempt when it isn't, is effectively causing a shortfall in government revenue. That shortfall and all the others like it don't simply just go away, so the government make up for them by passing it on to the rest of us honest people who do pay our road tax!!

Hey but why stop at tax evasion? You might as well drive without insurance too, the rest of us will just pay for any losses by hikes in our own premiums and you might as well claim some benefits you are not entitled to as well, the rest of us will soon pick up that tab for that in our taxes too!!

In short, however you choose to defraud the government, the only people you are really defrauding is the rest of us!! :P

Do people really do this just to say the road tax?

How tight do you have to be to go through the rigmarole of doing it in the first place, then when you come to sell finding an idiot who doesn't spot what you've done?

I'd rather pay the tax.....well i do!
