This is my first Forum post so please be nice haha
I'm thinking of buying a (1997-2000) MPI Mini and I'd like to know if an all new 1380cc engine unit would fit? (without engine-mount modifications and so on...)
I've been looking around for a while and I've only seen SPI's or the old school Coopers (Austin/Morris) with the bigger engines. I'm assuming that nobody has the same intentions as me? haha
The reason why I want an MPI is due to the safety 'equipment' if you can call it that and the big comfy seats...
-Also, with the 1380 engine I'd love a straight cut gearbox.
I just want to know if everything would fit & what sort of performance I could expect?
Thanks for reading,
Matt

A 1330 no problem, as long as you stay below 90BHP but a 1380 has significantly more torque and requires a lot more fuel.

if you can afford a whole new 1380 lump, can you also afford a remappable ignition to sort the ecu problem out?
There are no remappable ecu's available at present for MPI's

Seeing that a new engine + gearbox is already a lot of money, perhaps the new ECU's and re-maps are a no-no

In that case, is it possible to run a newer Mini with a 1380 without an ECU?
If not, what about the older MKII/III Coopers? Do they not have one?

I can't understand why this would be the case ?
Injectors just need a driver module and the ignition just needs a timer module, pretty basically any programmable ECU you work. However the likes of DTA would absolutely work it with no issues,

It's been done for SPI's but not MPI's as of yet, perhaps another project for you?

You mean a kit isn't available, however it still stands that any decent ECU will make an MPI work just fine.
