Hinges....

First up, they were prepped and several coats of high build primer were applied

Once that was flatted back, we end up with this

Hard to see in the photo but some slight imperfections are still present.

Next they are re-hung and 2 coats of black surfacer was applied. This is not so high build but enough to fil the remaining imperfections and make them ready to paint.

Once that is flatted back, we have this

And then 2 light coats of topcoat and we have the finished article.

Lots of work but they have come up well considering.

I have been trying to fit the fuel tank this afternoon but have come across a problem.

The plastic stand off clips that go into the bottom of the rear valance for the tank to screw to are causing grief.

The old ones are too scruffy to use but fit perfectly but the new ones don't fit the square holes in the panel snugly enough so once you start getting torque on the screws, the just begin turning in the holes.

Might have to do a bit of looking around for a more suitable replacement clip.

I don't like the idea of a tank full of fuel falling out from underneath the car because the clips pull out....

that's annoying, and yes, a securely attached fuel tank is probably a good idea.  i didn't think to compare the new ones against the old...

It's not just the size that is the issue, the plastic is softer so the gripper part can't stand up to the edges of the square hole in the steel without chewing up.

I think what I might do is install riv nuts into the mounting points, cut the gripper part off of the clips and use the rest as a stand off/spacer and bolt it in.

Is that ok with you?

Cheers

Ben

Should be and what I have in mind will look very close to how it would look using the original fastenings.

I'm going to fit the doors tomorrow too.

Hopefully have it rolling Monday and that will just leave the glass, tailboard and er... that's it I think!

..can't wait to get her back and see her in the flesh !!  not many sleeps now  :proud:

Are you planning on fitting a new rear screen surround or is the old one usable ? also i didn't ship any door seals as i didn't know what would work best - would you be able to deal with that ?

Is there a rear screen surround?

I haven't seen one and the glass was already removed when it came to me. Ill have to have a look.

I can order door seals and fit if you like or failing that, I can pad out the door shuts for transport. Let me know..

Also, I was placing a minispares order today so took the liberty of ordering front shock top mounts and front bump stops as these were missing and obviously the shock mounts will need painting.

There was something else improtant missing which I was supposed to mention but I'm buggered if I can remember what it was now!

Cheers

Ben

i *thought* i left the surround on the rear screen - it was a while ago, so could be mistaken..

steering column ?  i only left it in to make moving the car around a bit easier

we did talk about load anchors, but i'll be brave and fit them myself  - i've got a big drill  O_O

It may well be still on there then as  I haven't unpacked it yet. Ill check tomorrow.

Nothing to do with the steering column.... It will come to me eventually. It's written down at work and also on the order. Only something small.

And... oh bugger, i forgot about the load anchors. I can fit them still if you would like. that way, I can do any touching up required
