Hi there everyone, i have been trying to get a friends mini running well enough to just drive about until it gets on the rollers.

I have managed to get the timing and mixture to a point where it runs/drive as smooth as i can get it, there isn't any flat spots anymore.

But the problem is, i think the carb may need a rebuild because as soon as you turn the engine on fuel start's to piss out of the overflow pipe on the carb. I have came to the conclusion that the problem lies inside the float part of the carb.

I have been reading about the issue i'm having and overflowing of fuel can happen when the float isn't shutting off the fuel supply properly.

The fuel stops dripping out of the overflow after about 10 minutes of it sitting with the engine off.

So should replacing the float, needle valve needle seat in the float bowl of the hif44 solve the problem??

Any help would be great!!

Iain.

Sounds like the needle valve is leaking, strip down and inspect

PS Also check the jet isnt blocked, this will be easy once you've opened the float chamber

Its more likely to be a dirty/blocked/worn needle valve but still could be, so worth it giving it a quick spray of carb cleaner while you're at

Clean or replace the needle valve is my best bet then?

Cheers,

Iain.

I have just been told that the needle valve has been replaced very recently as it had the same problem a couple of months ago, so i've said a good clean and check that everything is moving/working as it should might work.

Whatever a standard fuel pump is... Is it called a mechanical fuel pump?
