Can't quite make out in the pics (apart from the oil pressure sender is disconnected) but witch way round are the leads on the plugs? As no1 is at the radiator/water pump end of the engine.

Just checked and I think the 'grumble' sound I heard came from the carb itself. The overflow seems to rapidly spit and fire, sometimes causing it to make a grumbling noise.

1-3-4-2 anti clockwise, starting from the top right position on the cap (or 2 o'clock).

That's on the cap, but on the head/plugs it should be 4-3-2-1 radiator.

As for the carb, the float bowl is built-in and on the bottom under the plate with 4 screws. Although you could try fully winding in or out (can't remember with on the hiff38) the mixture screw and then backing it out 2 full turns. As for you now you just need to get it to run and then fiddle with the timing and fuelling properly.

Yes, my plugs on the head are also 4-3-2-1 with 1 being closest to the radiator

Didn't really get a chance to have a proper play about this evening as I got back from work late. Though I had a quick go now, I turned the dizzy as far anti-clockwise as it would go but didn't really seem to do anything. When I started to turn it clockwise it started to pop and bang very loudly, quite a lot. This was whilst holding the choke open and pulling the throttle a little bit.

Still won't start though 😞

If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.
