My mini is stalling when coming to a stop. The idle is set at 1.5k however it still manages to stall. The mini has a 1380cc engine with split webbers and electronic distributor. Any help please?

If it stalls with the clutch pressed then it is something to do with the clutch, primary gear or crankshaft binding somewhere.

If not I'd get the engine optimised for your application.

I had similar issues, I sent the car to an AC Dodd trained specialist who made several changes (Dashpot oil too heavy so the piston drops too slowly, amongst others)

Thanks for the help, yes stalling with the clutch pressed. I just rebuild my engine, the clutch and hydraulic components are all brand new. Is it normal that the car revs at 1.5k with this kind of set up?

That idle would only be necessary for a race cam so what cam do you have?  Split 40 webers is pretty esoteric for anything other than full race.  As to stalling clutch in/out - to be absolutely clear, are you sayiing it idles ok with the clutch out but stalls only when you press the clutch?

What clutch set up? How did you set it up? What cam? What ignition system?

you say split webers. Do you really mean splits as in two body’s or do you mean a single body Weber? What size is it?

Yes i have split webber 45s 2 bodies with a racing cam and normal electronic ignition. It doesn't stall when I press the clutch at idle, it just stalls when im coming to a stop/decelerating.

I'm not sure which way round the float chambers in DCOEs are arranged but it sounds possible that deceleration is affecting the floats to either weaken the mixture or over richen it enough to stop the engine.  It might be worth checking floats and float level settings any way, but that's where I would start looking.  The only time I had twin webers was on a Lotus and of course the carbs are side mounted, not on front or back of the engine, so this wan't a problem.

Ok I will ask again what cam?
what standard electronic ignition? And when you say standard do you mean from the original car with No modification for the current build?

has the engine been set up on a rolling road yet?

Yes it is fitted with a brake servo. This engine was built by the previous owner back in 2001 and i dont know the exact specs of the cam.. . He told me that the camshaft is for racing and the ignition is just standard. No it never been on a rolling road.

So it has a servo, then does pressing the brakes when stationary also stop the engine?

so the ignition is wrong. And depending on what the cam is it might be ok but Racing covers many different things.

so as the above is unknown. Start the engine. Press the clutch. What happens?

oh have we found out what clutch set up it is?
